Study in Turkey

Why study in Turkey?

Turkey, a centre of large markets, combines the characteristics of three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa. It has a strategic position on the borders of the East and the West. Its official language is Turkish. Turkey is an industrial country where agriculture plays an important role in the production of national wealth. The Turkish economy is quite open and its young population is very large.

Many foreign students go to Turkey every year to continue their higher education. Some of them go to Turkey just after the baccalaureate, while others join Turkish higher education after obtaining a Bachelor’s or even a Master’s degree in order to continue their higher education there. This choice of public or private universities in Turkey is explained by the diversity of their courses and diplomas recognized at the international level.

Generally, the academic year in Turkey is divided into 2 sessions (to these is added a third session which is optional):

  • The fall session: It usually takes place from September to January;
  • The spring session: February to June;
  • The summer session: It is optional and is held from July to August.

Higher education in Turkey consists of public and private higher education institutions (universities, schools, institutes, etc.). This education encompasses several levels including:

  • Higher education institutions (usually vocational or trade schools) awarding an Associate’s Degree within 2 years (this title is somewhat equivalent to the Diplôme de Technicien Supérieur);
  • State universities are the main institutions of higher education in Turkey and have a high degree of autonomy. Their vocation is essentially to produce high quality higher education and to manage research for the perennial advancement of knowledge and discoveries.

However, Turkish universities also organize internships or postgraduate courses.
