Why Study in Japan?
Japan is an increasingly popular destination for students from around the world. As of May 2010, there were approximately 140,000 foreign students in Japan. The Japanese government has expressed the wish to increase this figure in the coming years and to reach the figure of 300,000 foreign students by 2025.
Whether your goal is simply to learn the Japanese language because you are interested in Japanese culture, or whether you intend to pursue higher education and/or work in Japan, it is a great idea to study Japanese in Japan.

SO WHY STUDY IN JAPAN?
- Take advantage of an excellent education system and tuition fees that are much lower than those in other developed countries. What you learn in Japan will prepare you for even the most competitive job markets. Learning the Japanese language will allow you to enroll in a university and obtain a highly respected degree, which will open up more opportunities for you.
- Once you have completed your courses and obtained a good JLPT grade (JLPT N2 should be your target), you will be in a good position to look for a position in a Japanese company. If you decide to stay in Japan, many opportunities will arise. The Japanese job market is very dynamic and the Japanese economy is the third largest in the world.
- If, on the other hand, you decide to leave Japan once you have completed your Japanese language training, your knowledge and experience of Japan will undoubtedly be highly regarded by your future employers, whether in your home country or elsewhere.
- The Japanese government has clearly expressed its desire to increase the number of immigrants, including by offering different types of visas to fill the labour shortage.
- You will learn the Japanese language faster by studying in Japan rather than just studying it abroad. It is generally believed that it takes 10 months (with a lot of work) to 1 year to get a JLPT level 2 score, whereas it would take much longer (probably years) if you stayed abroad.
- Discover a rich and fascinating culture. Japan is also a land of innovation and abundant creativity. Beyond the language, there is a lot to learn in Japan, especially on the human level.
- Enjoy a peaceful life: Japan is one of the safest countries in the world. Take a walk in the middle of the night in a deserted street without fear. Forget your wallet in a café and you will most likely find it there… In Japan, you feel really safe.
- Excellent living conditions: universal health insurance, very reliable public transport networks, delicious, healthy food with an unparalleled price-quality ratio, impeccable services, a rich nightlife (for those who are interested) and of course all the modern comforts you could hope for… This is also Japan.
- You will find that the cost of living is not so high. There are many ways to save money.
- Foreign students can work up to 28 hours a week in Japan and 40 hours on long holidays. Most students chose to work long hours during their long school breaks rather than travel or return home in order to save more money (for their future projects like Senmon Gakko) that they cannot do during normal school days.
At KOLIMA IMMIGRATION SERVICES, we help students choose the right program of study by matching their academic profile and helping them identify their needs and future goals.
