1. Schengen Tourist Visa

The Schengen Tourist Visa is an authorisation to visit any country in the Schengen Area for tourism or to visit friends or family residing in one of the Schengen countries. The holder of a Schengen tourist visa may stay in the Schengen area for the number of days indicated on the visa, which may not exceed 90 days within the 6-month period. The holder may not engage in any gainful activity during the stay on the visa issued, unless the visa issued provides otherwise.

2. Schengen Business Visa

The holder of this type of visa is allowed to do business in the destination country. Any restrictions on their business activities will be indicated on the visa.

3. Schengen Student Visa

The holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay and study in the country that has granted the authorization of enrolment issued by the school. The holder of this visa is not entitled to permanent residence and is subject to certain restrictions.

4. Schengen Work Visa

The holder of this visa is allowed to stay and work in the selected country in the Schengen area. Citizens of the United States, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and Switzerland may apply for a residence or work visa upon entry into the Schengen Area.

Citizens of the above-mentioned countries do not need a visa to enter the Schengen area.

5. Schengen Transit Visa

This type of visa is issued as :

  • A transit visa type A for airport transit in the Schengen area. The visa holder is not allowed to leave the so-called transit zone at the airport,

or

  • A type B transit visa valid for 5 days, which allows the holder to travel within the Schengen Area towards the final destination outside the Schengen Area.

Depending on the purpose of the trip, the Schengen visa can be issued as a :

  • Type A, a transit visa for airport transit
  • Type B, a transit visa that is valid for 5 days
  • Type C, a visa for a short stay in one of the Schengen countries. The duration of the authorized visit is indicated on the visa. Depending on the purpose of the trip, this visa can be obtained in the form of :
    • Single entry: Only one entry is allowed into one of the countries of the Schengen Area. After leaving the Schengen area, the return is not allowed even if the visa is still valid.
    • Double entry: This visa entitles the holder to two entries into the Schengen area and its validity is indicated on the visa. After the second exit from the Schengen area, the return is not allowed even if the visa is still valid.
    • Multiple entry: This visa does not limit the number of entries into the Schengen area. However, its validity is limited to 90 days within six months. The day of first entry into the Schengen area is considered as the first day of validity of the visa. In case of shorter stays in the Schengen area, the total duration of the stays shall not exceed 90 days.
  • Limited Territorial Validity Visa (LTV): the holder of this type of visa can only travel to countries in the Schengen area specified in the visa application. This type of visa is issued in special cases, for example for humanitarian purposes.
  • Type D, a national visa issued in special cases for the purpose of study, residence or work in a Schengen country. This visa can be :
    • A single entry visa granted to persons who do not need to stay in the Schengen country after the specified period,

or

  • A multiple-entry visa allowing the holder to return to the Schengen country that issued the visa. This type of visa is granted in the following cases:
    • To study for a maximum of one year, with the possibility of extension;
    • For educational work or research, as well as for the closest family members;
    • To experts who travel to carry out a professional activity.
